This was my first Mother’s Day being shorter than all my kids. There’s something inherently wrong with a mom having to look up to her kids to speak with them. They no longer fit into my arms. I now fit into theirs. I miss my little ones but I’m so incredibly proud of the big ones they’ve grown up to be. Sometimes it’s hard to believe they call me mom. How blessed am I?
There’s a lot of things I could have asked for for Mother’s Day, and I am getting a little tree for our backyard, but photos with my kids is pretty much the perfect gift. Since they have always lived with a camera/video happy mom, they aren’t overly excited to be photographed yet AGAIN. However, special occasions bring out their generosity of spirit and I have wonderful updated photos I will treasure my entire life.
We spent the rest of the day at my parents’ home, where my dad grilled up a wonderful steak dinner for all the moms. It was a perfect afternoon with warm breezes, sunshine, lots of laughter and love.
To all you moms out there, I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day, surrounded by those you love and who love you back. If it was a hard day, one that brought pain for whatever reason, I pray God’s grace will fill you and His love will embrace you. He sees you.
It’s not often I’m happy with photos I’m in. I’m sure many of you can relate. I usually hit delete faster than you can process the photo. Haha! But, I realize how important it is to exist in photos for the sake of my kids and family. It helps when your daughter is talented with hair and makeup. She worked her wonders on me for Mother’s Day and I couldn’t have been more pleased. We all need to be pampered and feel beautiful every now and then. When I saw this photo, I caught my breath. Me and my firstborn. The first one to call me mom. My son captured this for us. He’s a natural with the camera as well.
