When Sharmaine and Reinier asked me to photograph their wedding in Delft, The Netherlands, I was already thrilled! Imagine my surprise when I heard they also planned a celebration in Marseille, France and asked if I’d photograph them in their favorite European city!!! Um, YES!
I’ll share my personal adventure of our first day in Marseille in a later blog. You definitely don’t want to miss it!
Marseille is absolutely beautiful!! We left behind cool and rainy Holland for the tropical temperatures of southern France. This city is one of Sharmaine and Reinier’s all time favorites, if not their very favorite. It was in this very city Reinier proposed to Charmaine! They wanted to introduce friends and family to the city they love. My time there was way too short. I definitely want to go back because it would take days to properly take it all in.
We made it to Notre Dame de la Garde mid morning but the sun was already high and it was hot. It was also crawling with tourists. For me, it was a big challenge making the light work with limited gear and finding ways to shoot around all the people. Sharmaine and Reinier were troopers but after a while the heat became too much with her heavy wedding dress and his suit. I guess there’s something to be said for the cooler weather in Holland after all.
So, welcome to Marseille!

Marseille is breathtaking!
As we made our way back to the parking lot, tourists excitedly asked Sharmaine if she would pose with them!
Here we are making our way to Jardin du Pharo-Emile Duclaux, a beautiful public garden in Marseille with breathtaking views of the harbor.
I love this shot with Notre Dame de la Garde in the background.
